He's not joking, on higher end units they will separate out the preamp outputs and some of the other electronics, DSP chip, processor etc, and leave just a front end controller and amp (amp optional some high end units only do preamp outputs) high outputs in the radio body. With his because it's a flip out display in a single din enclosure there is very limited space in the head unit itself.

I thought it would be better to put the brain in the tourpack, so my RCA wires would only have to be 9" long to reach the amps, instead of running the length of the bike...

I hope you don't ever have to leave that thing at the dealers over night! I bet the shop guys would be touching and playing with everything scratching there heads in awe.
