-'96 FHLTP
-nothing has been added, its bone stock
-budget: Preferably $800-900 max
-install will be done by me, so labor cost is not a factor except for the cost of beer I will charge myself. The wife and the 6yo daughter provide sammichs from time to time.
-no lowers, and I dont want to replace lids. I only want fairing speakers
-has anyone ever put speakers in the bottom gauge mounts on a Police edition? waste of time and effort?
-I want loud at 75-80. Not parking lot-trailer queen-block party bagger loud. Preferably where the wife on the back can hear, but this isnt a HUGE issue since she doesnt ride all the time.

thanks for the help everyone!
I'll give you $2k for it right now, you'll make $500 easy money, and you won't have to worry about spending any further $ on it. :-)

Why won't they fit into the empty gauge holes?

I'll throw my .02 in here...

Sony DSX-S310BTX - $239
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...X-S310BTX.html

Vtwin Audio install kit - $86
http://www.vtwinaudio.com/store/products/1516/

Biketronics Titan II 7.1" - $269 (think you can get them a bit cheaper by calling BT)
http://www.biketronics.com/bt7p1-speaker-upgrade/

Rockford Fosgate PBR300x2 - $161
Amazon Amazon

a few pieces of wire, a fuse holder, a fuse, a little bit of your time installing and you're golden.

Granted I know there are some more powerful and better performing amps out there, but for the "bang for the buck", can't beat it.

they should fit perfectly fine. If nothing else, OP might need the Electra Glide gauge plugs to assist with mounting and they should already be on the bike he has. The fairing hole should be 2" in diameter and most 1" tweeters will require a 2" to 2-1/16" hole for mounting.

most speakers unless untreated paper material is used in manufacturing will hold up just fine.

No, I have a JVC HU. Just reading the threads, this Sony unit looks like it's legible in sunlight, has BT/XM/front USB/Aux input/5v preamp and marine rated.
