Default 2013 FLHTK Audio upgrade questions

My first post, but a long time lurker. After reading through all of the audio threads I still can’t figure out which way I want to go on my 2013 FLHTK. I would like to get some input and ideas so I can start gathering parts for a winter audio upgrade.
I want to keep all stock functions and controls and not lose FM. I will be keeping the HK head unit also. I think I need to go with a 4 channel amp to maintain fader control, but I emailed Biketronics and they suggested the BT2180 with the 7.1 speakers and leave the rears hooked up to the radio. I don’t see how that would work very well, and to go with one of their 4 channels kits is out of my price range. I am hoping to keep everything in the $6-700 range, a little more if necessary.
So, what I am thinking is the BT 7.1’s in the fairing and Infinity 62.11i (or similar) for the rear.
The amp really has me confused. A lot of folks like the RF pbr300x2, but can I get 2 of them in the fairing? What about a 4 channel? I see Cyclesounds has a Bagger Audio amp for about $350 and Phat Performance has an Arc Audio ks125.4 for $360. They say it won’t fit in the fairing, but I thought I read here that it does? What about RF pbr300x4? That would sure keep everything in budget.
Thanks for any help.
Rick

When I talked to bill he is a firm believer that you don't get much bang for your buck doing the backs, they are just kind of along for the ride and that's probably why he suggested not doing the backs.

If your planning on doing the backs (which you will be eventually) I would say buy the 4180, that way you will have your fader control from front to back with each speaker on its own channel.

Two PBR's wont fit in the fairing and the PBRx4 isn't a great amp according to most that have used it.

Don't know about the cycle sounds amp, but I do know the BT 4180 will fit and its a better amp in my opinion then the Arc.

Go 4180. 7.1's in the front. Titan II in the back. Each speaker on it's own channel. Rear 6.5 Pods on Ebay for $150. I respectfully disagree with Bill on the back speakers. Surround sound is the ticket. I hear all my speakers at 75 MPH equally. The back speakers may even outshine the fronts IMO. It's all about the set up. Amp the back my friend.

Ok. So what's the secret to get them in? I see that Hogtunes has a 2nd amp bracket but I can't find out if it works on mine

If you dont amp the rears you might just as well remove them all together because you will never hear them over the fronts without an amp.

2 PBR 300x2's will fit under the fairing. Have seen pics of both on top of the stock head unit. It is a tight fit but it will work. If your concerned about the extra weight of 2 on top of deck the hogtunes 2nd amp bracket works well also. Mine took a little tweaking in a vise to get bolt holes to line up. The bracket is for batwing fairings. I have a 2012 which is the same as your 2013.

I would go with the 4180 BT amp if your going to use 4 / 4ohm speakers. The mighty little PBR just doesn't push a 4 ohm like the BT. Its giving up about 55 watt per channel to the BT. If you don't jam it hard like a rock concert the PBR may suit you. If you have an upgraded exhaust you'll be happier with the BT.

Stay away from the fosgate 4 channel, not really suited for a bike. Too much heat.

sent you a pm.

Jetblack3, I don't see a pm, but maybe i'm not looking in the right place. Thanks for the tips. It seems a lot of forum functions don't work until you start posting so i guess I need to get my post count up.
Even though these old ears probably can't tell the difference, I will probably end up going with the BT4180 and 7.1's up front. I talked with John at Biketronics today and they don't make a speaker that fits the stock pods. Do the 62.11i Infinity bolt right in and are they compatible?

Buy the Titan II's for the rears and use these speaker adapters to put them in:

The infinity 62.11i's will fit with some modifications. They ALMOST fit perfect but when you go to screw them down they are not as flush as they should be. They need a thin spacer.

BT said their 6.5's wouldn't fit stock pods and I want to keep the passenger controls so it looks like those adapters would be required. It also looks like they push the speaker out a little and maybe encroaching on buttspace? Are there spacers for the Infinity's already made or would i need to fab something up?

Lol. . . Butt encroachment . . . I like that! The Infinity 62.11i speakers come with spacers you could fab by cutting the tabs off or you could buy something like this:

The V-Twin Kit is very nice but as you stated the speakers do stick out about a half inch more than normal. All I do is take my backrest off when my wife rides with me so she can sit forward a little. I'm 6'3" and my wife has a big butt. . . .lol. . . I hope she never gets in here and reads this stuff! Anyway it works out better for me in regard to hearing my back speakers when she's on the bike. When she was sitting all the way back her butt muffled the sound from the speakers and I could only hear my lid speakers.
