Is the issue with modifications a Canadian thing?
I don't think it's a Canadian thing. I'm with Farmers here in AZ and was asked for engine size in cc's, any mods, any turbo or supercharger.

And a British thing, too. Some countries insure the rider/driver, others insure the machine itself. Most will look at both.

Insurers use actuarial tables to predict the level of risk that they are underwriting, so they look at as many different things that MIGHT increase/decrease the risk. For example, red cars have more accidents, so they cost more to insure. Soldiers have more accidents, so...

In the UK, big displacement Harleys are the LEAST stolen bike, and riders tend to be older and have fewer accidents. Race reps - not so much! Guess who pays more insurance...

Default CDN Insurance

Try TD Bank (Primmus Insurance). Switched from my long time insurer on a 08 Ultra and went from $1780/year with replacement coverage and full comprehensive to $1,031.00 this year with same deductibles ($1,000). I am in Ontario where our rates are normally much higher than the rest of the country so yours will likely vary. If I add my cars to the policy my premium will go down about $200. I listed that I had $5K worth of upgrades and they were good with that. Hope it helps.

My insurance is $125 a year. Everything is covered such as theft, uninsured, comprehensive, etc. excluding collision. I figure if I wreck I will cover my own loss.

Excluding collision? Now that sounds seriously weird to me. Maybe because I had never even heard of that possibility. May I assume that no collision means that it is what we call, 3rd party only, where the other guys damage is but yours is not covered?

Ya you are prob right being from the states and all with different policies completely....Well I am from Canada, Alberta to be specific. I was with TD Meloche and they said no right away and asked lot's of questions about engine and alterations. They sent it to the under writers and came back denied due to engine and paint.

So I called around and finally found a few companies that will insure it. I don't know if it's different in Alberta with private insurance than it is in BC with gov insurance. All I do know it was a pain in my ***.

My buddy just brought his ride from an 88 to a 95 called his insurance and they denied him also. SO he went with the same company as me I believe the actual company is Jevco.
