1996 FXD problem
here's problem #1- (from cold to normal operating temp) choke on>bike starts up good but after a few seconds of running on choke, it acts as if it is overloading with fuel and blows dark smoke>have to leave choke on or it will die>begin ride and as long as I don't have to stop right away I can turn the choke off>once the bike warms up, choke is not required
1st question> is it normal to have to leave choke on for so long?
continuing>problem #2(as I ride)when slowing down in gear and then picking the throttle back up, the engine hick-ups/spits and then goes on as if nothing happened
2nd question> where do I need to start looking to remove this problem? is this a carb issue?....timing?...or something else?
exhaust is after market with no restrictions and I don't know if the carb has had any work done on it or not.
It would be a good idea to remove the carb, disassemble and clean it, or at least remove the float bowl and give it a good shot of spray carb cleaner.
Make sure the vacuum hose to the VOES and Petcock are in good condition, better yet just replace them.
Replace any fuel hose that looks old, they deteriorate inside and foul up the carb inner workings...
Also remove the intake manifold, and replace the seals.
Congratulations on the new bike
