I am restoring a 48 Panhead and have run into some issues (I'm sure there will be more to come). Here is the story. I started working on the oil tank the other day and noticed that there is / was a yellow coating on the inside of the tank. I am assuming this is some sort of an aftermarket tank sealer of some sort. looks like it was applied a long long time ago. Whatever it is, it is peeling and flaking. Not good. I want to get all of this stuff cleared out of the tank and am soliciting anyone with some ideas on how to do it. I was thinking about filling it up with gasoline and let it sit for a while and let the gas do some work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks everyone for the tips. I have heard about the radiator shop technique but wasn't sure if it could potentially damage the tank. These things are expensive as I am sure you know and I wont go repop. Thanks again for the info.
