confused with fuel smell issue
Okay, so I have a 2000 Sporty. converted 883>1200 hot rod.
Every time I go into the garage after the door has been closed overnight or while I am at work, the smell of gas is VERY strong.
At first, I was finding a small gas mark on the floor, and traced it back to a dry rotted fuel overflow line....which was weird, as it was still doing it when the fuel level in the tank was at least an inch from the overflow vent.
So, I replaced the line, no more leak, but still the smell.
So, I thought "maybe the vacuum stopper in the petcock had given out and I was getting fuel overflow to the carb, so I started the bike, turned off the petcock, ran it for a few more seconds and turned her off.
Next day....smell was still there. The overflow line is clear, and when I look at the line, it is completely dry. Do I need to block off the overflow??
how in the hell am I getting this strong smell? I swear if a neighbor walked in with a cigarette, we'd be DEAD.
Any ideas/comments would be GREATLY appreciated.
thanks.

You may just need to replace the valve in the carb's float bowl, or maybe adjust or replace the float itself.
Be sure to inspect the gas line too. There could be a leak in it or the nozzles connecting to the carb or petcock. There's a lot of area's where gas can leak from.
And instead of allow the leak onto the floor put a pan under to catch it and dump as needed. Hopefully you'll fix it before the explosion and gas fire.
If I plugged off anything it would be the gas tank overflow.
The float is working correctly,as the bike runs like a raped ape!
the fuel isn't coming from the float bowl overflow at all.
The spot was about 2-3 inches in diameter on the floor...after changing the line, I just today found a spot the size of a quarter on the floor......really irritating.
