Default Fuel Cap Leaking

Just wondering how full you guys fill your tank.I was going past the little circle in the tank and once I started moving gas would leak from the cap and run down the tank,I thougth maybe the heat was doing it,making the gas expand so I started topping off at the circle, not worth the extra 50 cents if it's going run down the side of my tank.Is this normal or do I need a new cap,I'm taking my bike in for service shortly, and should I ask for a new gas cap?or don't fill it as much.My sporty never did this,it would just run out under the bike.

I had a similar issue a while back, realized that i had to tighten the cap much more than i had been. I would stop tightening soon as it would start clicking, now i keep trying to tighten and get a lil more out of it. No leaks since, and I fill her up to the top.

Replace the gasket, less than 2 bucks and fixed mine.

They shouldn't leak at all. I go just past the ring, and at 12 years old, it still doesn't leak...(but I 'click' it too.)

Same experience here. I prefer the old style caps. I hate the way these rattle. I also wish both sides of the tank had filler caps. The fuel gauge is just a nuisance.

I read on another post that after it stops push down and give it an extra tweak. That'll stop the leak.
