Default question

I have a chopper with a dyna springer front end. I put a fender on the springer and I mounted it about an inch and a half above the tire. Yesterday I hit an enormous bump in the highway (almost like a speed bump about 4 inches high) There were no warning signs to tell you a bump was there. Any ways after hitting the bump at 120 kms an hour the front fender hit the tire and flew off when I landed, luckily it flew off to the side and didn't hit anything except the pavement. So my question is how high shouild you mount the fender above the tire .

Is it mounted to your front or rear fork assembly? Mines on the front and I run it at 1.5" with no issues.

Yes it was mounted to the front round 1 inch fork. I had a discussion with a fellow that has used these front springers for years. He also said i.5 inches above tire would be fine. My guess is when I hit the bump the thin piece of steel broke and then the fender hit the tire and the other side was ripped off. I am going to make those brackets out of a stronger piece of steel
Thanks for your response
