Default Drum to Disk

Currently I have a drum brake on the front with a mechanical lever (no master cyl). Has anyone ever converted a drum to a disk brake using the same mechanical style levers? My goal is to keep the handlebars free from "extra stuff", so I'd like to do this without converting to a hydraulic system.

Relocate a master cylinder out of the way & use a lever/cable/Handlebar lever. Did them in the early 70's. Cable stretches & it is a case of the tail wagging the dog.
