Rear axle length???

Rear axle length???
 \\;How do you figure rear axle length? The rear plates on my frame measure 9 5/8 across. I'm guessing another 1/2 inch per side plus another 1/8 inch for license plate mount= 10 3/4. Is that going to work?
 \\;I know I have been asking a bunch of questions, but this is my first build and I want to get things right and can't think of a better bunch to ask. Thanks,

Ok,
 \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;
measure from the outside of the plate to the outside of the other plate, so you have an overall width measurement.
 \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;
1 inch on each side for axle adjusters
 \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;
1/8 inch for license plate bracket
 \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;
1 inch for the nut and washers
 \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;
IF IT WERE ME....
~ Add 3.5 inches to the overall width. \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; If it's too long, then it can be cut down, right? \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; If it's too short, then you just wasted some money and will have to get another one.

So, if 9 5/8 inches is fromt he OUTSIDE of both plates, go with \\; 13 1/4 \\;\\\\\\;inches, IN MY OPINION.

Don't worry about asking questions of ME....becasue I am just finishing my build, and you can never have enough information.
