she wants a hard tail with a sprung seat and isn't willing to negotiate. plus we already sawed the swing arms off of the pivot.( got a little carried away as it would have been easier to get the rigid lined up if those were still on) she did like your idea about the tank though and that is on the must do list now. she also requested that we try to get the hard tail to flow with the back bone.
ahh man! see if you can find a new swing arm... use that as the lower protion of your hard tail and then you will nto need to Jig it... just weld in the upper supports and you are golden wiht a hard tail...
something like this but welded not struts
that looks good and much easier too. not sure how hard it would be to find a swing arm for it but that might be an option. got a line on an experienced builder and I want to hear what his idea is on building a hard tail. but in the mean time I think I'll try to locate one.
been impatiently waiting for my welder buddy (he got sick, damn him) that's storing his welder in my garage to come over and help me with the jig.
in the mean time I took Joe's advice and cut the rear mounting tabs of of the tank for lowering and figured out a lift for the front (thanks to the ''under 50 bux'' thread). also cut the seat post off so I can shorten and move it back a little.
found a jig that we are going to try to copy http://www.mammothchoppers.co.uk/news01.htm
my welder friend showed up tonight and I finally got to try my hand at it. he said the welds didn't look to bad but we didn't take a hammer to it to see how strong they where. think I'll let him take over when we weld the frame.
here's the jig so far

got some more done on the jig today. need to go get axle and spacers tomorrow so I can finish up the tail piece. thinking I'll stretch it about 5''. then go get some tubing and start bending.
Now that's different. I'll be v. interested to see what this turns into - it's nice to see people building with other engines than a v-twin, cos you can get away with different things depending on the engine.
Are you going to add lower frame tubes running down from the steering column to under the engine, and then on to the rear axle ?
