I'm sitting here thinking about another bike project, and thought it might be fun to get some ideas from you guys on what to build etc.
I like sporty's because they are CHEAP in comparison to the others, and there EASY to work with, as everything is in a tight little package.
BUT....
I love the big twin looks and feel.
Shovelheads look KILLER, but need an aftermarket oil pump to keep the oil pressure up high enough so that you don't have to tear the motor apart for top-end jobs.
In general, I hate carbs. No matter how much I messed with the CV on the sporty, it wouldn't work as well as the Delphi Fuel Injection I have on the FXD.
Anyway, Let me hear your .02

I know this is an HD forum but why not do something different like a Trump or a CB or KZ.These can be done really cheap.......especially the CB's.Here's mine.I'm in the process of "freshening it up".Still deciding on paint.I'm barely over $1500 on this bike. It's still got a ways to go but it won't cost me much more
If you really like Shovels and you got the bucks check out the S&S Shovels.Looks and reliability
if you haven't already, check out The Horse Backstreet Choppers magazine. you can get lots of ideas on all kinds of builds with all kinds of bikes http://www.thehorsebc.com/
sportster is a great base to start a project, i have an idea for my next project, and that is to use an old 86-91 sportster and make a somewhat replica of a knuckle.
rigid or softail style frame, big spring seat, big full fenders and giant tank with tank speedo, beach bars, 2-1 pipe with fishtail and panhead style heat sheilds for the headers. all flat black or dark flat red.
think a bobber/rat bike, but not stripped down or chopped.
this is a evo big twin, but its pretty much the exact look im going for with my next build, and with a giant brown leather spring seat.
I recently looked at a used 1200C. Looks like a good HD to bob. I'm thinking with forward controls, my 6' 1" frame may be able to actually ride this a few miles...
Yeah Traveler the sporty idea is a real good way to go. Like you said tight little package and much cheaper then a big twin. I got an xl883 that I just cant decide how to go with it!
