Yes chillicothe missouri , no dont know him at least by name ?? how much oil is required ??. More info on this situation it didnt start doing this till i had the bikes *** off the ground to change flat. had it in the air for a while could that have caused it
Chilli hit me up on monday... i can pull it up in my manuals and let you know what the oil compasity on that sucker is... my database is closed to be updated this weekend... got to make sure i have all the manuals up to date and on file!
Your engine is "wet sumping." There is a spring loaded check ball that is supposed to keep the oil in the tank from gravity feeding to the engine when it is not running. That check ball is leaking-through.
It is located down by the oil pump. I suggest you present this problem in the Ironhead (Sportster) section of this forum and ask for guidence there on how to repair the leak through-problem.

I agree with this hypothesis, sounds like all the oil from the oil tank is running back into the crankcase when you shut her down, a little alway drains back but sounds like yours is draining way more than it should.

Your bike is sumping and that is normal. If it clears up after you rode it and let it idle for a while, you are good to go. Sumping will occur everytime you let the bike sit. Could be as little as a week or more.
Very normal for an old irohead. As mentioned above, oil gets past the ball valve and into the crankcase when sitting for long periods. You have two choices......replace the valve or live with it.Most ironhead riders that I know live with it. Don't let it sit for too long and if you do make sure you put something down to catch the oil,top it off ,and off you go
