2005 AIH LSC. Bike cut off and died. No power to anything, except headlight did come on. A few minutes later, it came back to life. Rode another mile or so and it died again. This time it didn't come back on. Had a friend bring me a battery - no luck. Got a tow home on a landscapers trailer.
Next day I messed with all the electrical connections. After I reseated the connection to the RHC it fired up. It started and ran fine in the garage the next couple of days. First chance I got to road test it, it died after about 4 miles. Trailered it home again.
I contacted Thunderheart (they make the RHC, which they actually call a MHC micro harness controller). They told me they would test it and repair/replace it, if needed. I dropped it at the post office at closing time Thursday, and they attempted delivery Saturday but Thunderheart was closed. Post office delivered Monday. Thunderheart called me Tuesday and said the unit was dead, and only powered the headlight (exactly what I experienced). They also told me my unit was "old" type. They are replacing the internals of the module, for a very reasonable price, and say I will have it back tomorrow, or Friday.
I am more than impressed with Thunderheart. The friendliness of their people, their willingness to stand behind their product when they had no requirement to do so, and the speed in which they carried out the process, are all top notch. Makes me proud to be an American, and see American companies act this way!
That's the same controller package the last go round with Indian used , I have a box with a dozen dead units in it , do your self a favor and pick up a couple spare starter relays for it they go out regular .
I've owned Ironhorse bikes since 2003, and worked on a few others, but I've never seen a starter relay problem. Not doubting what you are saying, just my experience. Which electronic controller did Indian use?
Same one most the aftermarket chopper shops used from 1999 till ? I still see them for sale , Thunderheart units about 2" wide x 5" long about an inch thick with the small relay on the back with 4 plug in for the the wiring harnesses . They lost the ignition circuits , turn signals and the starter relays regular , in 10 months in 04 working at an Indian dealer I saw 2 or 3 bikes a week with issues with the controllers we warrantied crates of them . No joke I've got a box with a dozen or so still I was going to play with .
These things use the small sporty type relay , between that and the Spyke starters I stayed busy .
For Ironhorse's last several years they used this ThunderHeart controller. ThunderHeart calls it "micro harness contoller" (MHC). Not sure when Ironhorse started using these, but my 2004 had this type.
