Your bike your choice. Even if its just dusty having a lubricant and something to lift the dust is always good practice. When new customers come to pick up their vehicles I spend at least 30min with them on proper washing/drying methods. The importance of Quality MF towels, not the junk from walmart of auto parts store. Washing and drying is were most swirls/marring comes from.
To each their own. Your bike your choice

I've noticed clean, shiny bikes with lots of swirls, looks like hell IMO. So, I'm always concerned and very careful to try and avoid swirls. But I gotta tell ya, all my MF cloths come from Target, Walmart or one of the chain auto parts stores. And I've looked in the past to see if they had any "premium" type MF choices because if they offered them I would be willing to pay a little more but I've never seen anything premium. Seems the only choices I have seen had to do with maybe the colors or the sizes. My current RGU is the two tone red, and my previous RGC was the now discontinued Big Blue Pearl. Neither bike ever developed any swirls and I never used anything except the available MF cloths from various outlets.

Griots Garage foam cannon and a boar's hair brush, and an 18" wheel brush for the engine. I use hot softened water for wash and rinse. And then detail with Griot's speed shine. For the wheels, I use an old cotton rag and Pledge.

Might not be swirls per say, but those towels, wet towels will cause marring. I have a Flex light that shows it all. Ive had brand new cars dropped off and customers say it doesn't need any polishing. Put it in the garage and put that light on it and it will tell the truth. Had a new Track Hawk dropped off guy was there at delivery when it cam off the truck. 12hrs of polishing on that.
But its all relative. Some people are looking for as good as possible and some just good. One way is not better then the other, just what the owner wants

I do try to keep my bike looking good. Now, that doesn't keep me from riding it but in warm weather if I ain't riding and other things are caught up you have a good chance of catching me in the garage cleaning on it. And probably after dinner I'll ride again in the adjacent semi-rural county till about dark. Damn bugs!

You are in the detailing business and I'm not. Thanks for your info. And I don't even have any idea what a "Flex Light" is. But it sounds like if I ever used a Flex Light to look over my bike I wouldn't be happy with the "clean/shiny status" I have been achieving. Please, don't nobody suggest to my wife to get me a Flex Light as a birthday or Christmas gift LOL.

Just a light that was made to show paint defects. Too bright and it washes out. Not bright enough, doesn't show much. This light works really well though.

As long as your happy that is all that matters
