Ive been looking for this stuff locally, finally found some at one of my local auto parts stores. They had a couple different Sonax products, including the Iron & Fallout remover, but I picked up a bottle of their Wheel Cleaner Plus. In the instructions it says NOT to use on motorcycle wheels, anyone know why ? Maybe they mean chrome wheels, or spoked for some reason ? The bottle says its safe for clear coats, so it should be OK to use on my stock Street Glide wheels right ?
This is just a pic for reference as to which wheels I have, taken when I detailed the bike a few months ago. I havent used the Sonax yet
No idea why it says not to use on bike wheels. Bearings maybe? Ive used it on my old bike, new bike, customers bikes.
Dont spray directly into where the bearings are and rinse the calipers out really good and it should be fine
Not yet, Ive not had the chance. Weve had somewhat of a real-life winter here in Tn this year, albeit nothing like what you guys up north and over the border are used to, but its been cold enough that I actually bagged up and brought inside some of the pricier detailing stuff I bought last fall because my buildings arent heated and I was afraid they would freeze and get ruined. Stuffs way to expensive to let that happen ! Anyway Im looking into, (probably getting ready to buy )an ABS utility to flush my brakes and figured that would be a good time to try the Sonax out, because Of course Ill make a mess with the brake fluid and have plenty of cleanup to do afterwards.
Well I finally got around to trying this stuff out and wanted to check back in I did just a quick test on my rear wheel, per instructions. Sprayed on, let it sit for a few (about 3 1/2 minutes) and hosed it off thoroughly, and I gotta say, it seems to work nicely and I could see no ill affects, so as to my original question of why is says not to use on motorcycles, its still a mystery. I chose the back wheel because it was pretty grimy, it didnt get sealed when I detailed the bike last year like the front did. But it should do even better with a brush and some scrubbing, when I get around to doing a full wash. A couple pics:
