Default how I machine polish a harley fairing

The fairing on my street glide was starting to look beat up so I polished and waxed it this weekend. It just had some fine linear scratches on it from washing and drying mostly. I try to live with the minor stuff as much as possible and not overdo this polishing business to preserve the clear coat. It's also a lot of effort, in addition to polishing, preparation and clean up takes time. I'm working in my garage but a lot of the tools are in the basement so it's a lot of up and down the stairs.

This time I made a video of how I use a Griots G8 to polish the fairing. The paint on my 2020 Harley corrects very easily. I keep the machine moving pretty fast and I rock it back and forth to keep the pad spinning while in the concave areas of the fairing. How I do it is different that the videos that I've seen on line, where they are polishing the flat surfaces of a car.

I took the fairing off the bike, I find it's easier to work on it that way, and you don't have to mask off adjacent parts on the bike. I washed the fairing (outside and inside) with car wash soap, otherwise I used no other chemicals or clay other than what is described in the video

I had to figure out how to use a video editor and it left a watermark, but here it is

Interesting…I’ve only watched a few seconds of this (I just now found it and I’m at work, so I should be working haha), how are you keeping your fairing from walking all over the place ? I did the same thing as you as far as taking the outer off my bike, and I had to keep chasing the damn thing all over the table ! I’ll watch more later so I can hone in on your technique. Thanks for posting this !

After every wash I apply "Ceramic Shield" to my Tri-Glide.
End of story

it's on a sturdy folding table. I put a large towel on top of the table and ball up another towel underneath the fairing, you can't see that one in the video. You do need to be careful not to let the fairing fall onto the floor.
