Default Rusted Chrome

I have a couple of chrome pieces on my bike that have rusted. I have removed the rust and have it polished up with chrome polish. What, if anything, other than wax can I pit on it to keep the rust from coming back? I know with wax, I will have to reapply it every few weeks. I have some can coat, will that last longer than wax?

how is it damaged? surface or pits?
you can neutralize the rust with a convertor and a q-tip. for pits, fill in with a chrome paint and sharp pointed dropper, when dry, dull the surface and topcoat with an automotive clear coat pin and when dry polish down.
surface rust you probably will have to clear coat the entire piece.

It is pitted in a few spots. I was thinking putting a coat of clear on it, but I’m not sure how long it will last. I have also considered putting some clear fingernail polish but also not sure how long it will last. If I can find a can of clear coat I’ll probably go that route. I went by Orileys and they didn’t have any spray clear. I appreciate the info.

Edit: I have removed all the rust but pots are still there.

nail polish will not work
you need to stick with automotive type
you could try fusion by krylon found locally.

Ok thanks. My concern with clear nail polish was that it would peel or flake. I live in a small town and all we have here is an autozone and oreillys, along with a n ace hardware store whose prices are close to double what Home Depot or Lowe’s is. Next time I go to Lowe’s or Home Depot in the big city, I’ll pick up a can of automotive clear or Keyon fusion. Thanks for the advice.
