Been doing showcars and bikes for 35 years. I have earned 100's of trophys in that time. My current ride is a 79 Super Glide. I put more miles a year on her than I do my van every year. On a day to day basis to say she looks better than my riding buddies 06 and 07 HD's would be an understatement. The last show I put her in, she was that clean to start with then I spent 10 hours detailing her and got second place. She still wears the factory original paint! It took 3 guys to push the first place bike out of the enclosed trailer and up to the show. They never even started it! When it was over I bungee corded my trophy to the sissy bar and rode home 45 miles. To me that was a win. With all that said, a GOOD detail job is well worth $15/hr. A bad one aint worth 2 cents. A good friend of mine bought a 73 FLH that is a mechanicly good bike. He wanted me to make it look as good as mine. I told him to bring it over and he could pick it up in April. The bike is now in pieces in my dining room being "detailed". What you charge depends on what you do. If you charge $50 and spend 1 hour on the job, you will never get any repete business. My friend gave $3000 for this 73 FLH. There is no doubt in my mind that when he gets it back in April he can sell it for $10,000. What do I charge him for this job?

It's nice to see that there are other **** repulsive people on this forum (I mean that in a good way Grandpa56) Seems to be no cure for wanting to rip things completely apart and make them as good if not better than new. Will you set the price for the "73" or let your buddy pay you what he thinks it's worth. Anyway here's a pic (if it loads of our 94 Heritage two weeks before our first trip to BikeWeek last year.)

Point made Grandpa. Gotta love it. Sorry, I could not afford to have someone detail my bike, I don't make that kind of $$, just a workin' stiff.I know how many hours are in it, sometimes daily, if we get in some shi**y riding conditions. Mine comes almost all the way apart each fall. The pics were taken in Nov, B4detailing began. A lot of the major chrome is 30+ yrs old and still perfect. And we do ride the sheot out of it. And it is a panhead, and it does leak, OOPS, mark it's territory. 70k customs beware. He does get possessive.By now I should own Mothers, Turtle, GUNK and Q tip.

94Dan69, looks like the 73, but it is missing the fenders too. I am going to paint it for him, black with white bags. It has the white buddy seat. This job will be "con grattis". I do hope to get some work out of the finished product tho. My biggest worry is that he will put it in a bike show and that will put him in the same class as ME, antique. I don't look foward to competeing against my own work.

I know what you mean by workin' stiff. I'm thinking about a sign that says: "will clean for food". That is 1 IMPERSSIVE scoot you got there! If you look at the second pic, you might want to install a bolt in that front tank mount before you ride. LOL There are some of us that keep the old iron rollin.

2 guys for an hour for a hundred bucks?
That is 50 bucks an hour a piece!!! Holy Christ.....we are not talking
about dental surgery!!!!!! No College degrees involved?
You are washing a bike and drying it.......can it be done for $15
an hour, which is more than I make an hour........(I guess a TIP is expected also)
I have never had my bike detailed....because I was affraid to ask how much.
For a hundred bucks........you have to be SHi++ing me!

I've never had anybody wash any of my bikes over the years, cuz my butt puckers when somebody I don't know touches my ride. I'd have to see your scooter first, and if it passes the white glove test, check your hands for rings, braclets, any other "scratch" potential stuff and then....maybe then, I'd let
you detail my ride. To me, you gotta gain somebody's trust to
lay hands on their ride. Treat it as if it were your very own, use the best product, best techniques for the best results and you will succeed and have lots of new friends that will bring you lots of money and Beer. Good luck with the venture.

Oh! by the way, I'd pay you a flat $75 bucks for a job well done and I work for a livin' .
