Must be a Califonia thing, 90% of the ones here in Ohio and surrounding states are the old style.

Either keep a paper towel in your bag or grab one when you pull up to the pump....when you take the nozzle from the pump hold the towel to the end of nozzle...same when you remove nozzle from tank...the towel will catch all the drips.
This is same idea as what I do. Instead of the paper towel, I just hold the upside down gas cap to the end of the nozzle to catch the drips.

A friend turned me on to micro-fiber towels a month when I bought my '06 Black Denim Street Bob, I ride to work about 30 miles one way and use a back pack. In my back pack I keep a ziploc bag with a wet micro-fiber towel in it and another dry micro-fiber towel to dry it off with. I normally wet the micro-fiber towel before I wash my bike before the water gets dirty because I have Dawn dishwashing liquid in the water then I store it in the ziploc incase I need it later. This won't take up much space in a saddle bag, or even a fork pouch.

Hope this helps, Ride Safe,
Matrix

Please tell me that you don't use Dawn dishwashing liquid to wash your bike. These types of detergents are not good on any kind of paint.

As 3 Dog said, your gonna need to reapply that LG.
I spill a drop here and there from tiem to time, it happens no matter how careful we are. If I don't have anything, I use one the gas station's window wahsing blue towels and actaully spit on my tank to try and wipe it clean until I get home.
