Default Upper Frame Threaded Hole Rust Prevention

Not sure what the threaded holes under the seat ('09 Road Glide) on the upper frame are for - maybe for the addition of a trike set up? During cleaning / seat removal I continue to notice rust in the threaded holes and decided to try something to prevent/control the rust (see first picture).

Decided to use a Trim Panel Retainer (plastic) from Advanced Auto (2 pcs for $2.99) to "plug the hole". Greased the threads prior to inserting the plug (picture with one hole plug, one remaining). I'm sure the rust is not a big issue to worry about, but it bothers me everytime I look at it.

Not a bad idea, but you should use dialectric grease and not regular everyday grease. Regular grease really doesn't shed water as efficiently as most people think. Test it yourself...take a spoonful of regular grease and a spoonful of water in a little bowl (or a small enclosed, watertight bottle or something that you can 'shake') and mix. It'll not be easy, but it *will mix, even if just a little, but that means the moisture is still in it and will stay in it longer because it can't evaporate as easily now.

Try the same with dialectric grease. Might still get some mixing, but nothing near like the other grease.
