Default Little Tip

I was having a hard time keeping water and hence unsightly rust from forming in the various back side of the tapped holes all over my bike. For example where the drivers floor boards are bolted to the frame. The bolts are short and only enter less than half way into the tapped frame holes. The back side of these tapped holes which in many cases are clearly visible, would rust and run out onto the frame. I was always touching these holes up. One day while looking for some washers, I came across a few of those black plastic automobile panel push pins. The ones that hold the various finish panels on mostly inside but ocassionally also outside your car. They come in a bunch of various sizes, shapes and also in a glossy or flat finish. What I did was cut off just enough of the end with the teeth on it that hold them in the hole so that when pushed into the holes they bottom out nice and flush. Who would have thought? I went and bought a box of multi sizes at my local auto parts store at a cost of just a few cents each and went to town touching up all the holes and then plugging them with these. I wanted to see how they would hold up over time so I waited to report on the idea until now, a year later. The few holes I missed are still rusting. The ones I plugged are clean and still plugged and look as though this was done at the factory. Black tops blend right in with the frame and the flat with domed or tapered heads cause the water to always just run away from the holes. They stay in nice and tight but are also very easy to remove if need be. Thought I'd pass it on.

I've noticed that before too, and that is a good tip.
Thanks.

Back side of the many drilled through and tapped holes on your bike. I used the example of where the drivers floor board mounts attach to your frame. Look at the backside of the tapped frame hole.
