Costco.

Fabric softener and sheets use oils to make your clothes soft. These oils can transfer to your paint job leaving smearing. That's why you should only use fabric softener-free detergents and never add the liquid or FS sheets to the wash or dryer.

I second what Primo said, Costco is the place to be Microfiber cloths. You get 20 to a bag for $9.95, can't beat the price, and these are large cloths 16" x 16".

Actually in MF's 16x16 is the small. Costco and Sams both tend to change suppliers a lot. When you buy these brands it is a GREAT idea to use it on an old CD....if the scratch the CD you can bet it will mar your clearcoat. All Mf's are not the same. There is a major difference between those made in Korea and those made in China. True MF has split fibers...not everything called MF is split.
The MF we use on customers bikes run around 5.00 apiece...I believe there is a difference. We have over a 100 of the yellow Costco/Sams MF but they are dedicated to dirty work.....door jams and engine bays.

I did a search awhile back on these. Never heard of "microfiber" and suddenly everyone was talking about them. So I went on a quest one day. Hit 3-4 places including a Targets. Bought cheap ones and expensive ones. My find? The expensive ones, are very soft, and you can tell just buy looking at them that they're made better. The really chap ones? Well, I did find a use for them. They're great for cleaning glasses! I hate smudges or anything distracting on my glasses. I keep a cheap-o MF in my pocket and use it often (not while riding ) Works real well when stuck in rain to dry off the spots. Its about the only thing they're good for. On cleaning the bike I use the yellow ones from Costco. But only new ones for polishing and such. And don't ever drop one and try to just shake it out or rinse it clean. These things act like Velcro. Even washing them doesn't seem to get all the crap out of them. I use the old ones for cleanups and such. Then toss em. They're cheap enough.
Heres a couple of links to some good info on M/Fs

Costco! 24 towels for about $9.00.

ORIGINAL: tizone

Everyone seems to believe that microfibre cloth is the way to go when cleaning up the bike to protect the clearcoat. I was just wondering where everyone buys these rags. Is there a good place to go online that sells them in bunches or do you just go down to the local auto/bike parts stores? I need to pick some up soon. Thanks!

I use the McQuires Gold Class Micro Fiber clothes they work great!!! You can find them a PEP Boys.

They seem to be made better and have a satin edge all the way around so there aren't any nylon threads that can scratch.

So what do you use these cloths for?

Dusting? Dry or Wet?

Waxing? With S100 detail & wax?

Any tips appreciated.

Or do you just take a clean dry MF and wipe clean?

I use mine to detail in between soap and water washes. Get a good detailers spray like Mcguires "Quick Detail." Very easy to keep your bike looking showroom condition in between the down and dirty washes.

I used to own a detail shop and I rarely ever use soap on my bike!

I have always used cotton diaper and t-shirts. No scratches yet.
