Question Nuvite?

I'm in the process of taking my Roadglide apart for a thoughly cleaning and inspection. (300 miles through the rain on my return from Sturgis last year has made this necessary, FILTHY in every nook & cranny!)

Outter fairing, tank, lowers, both wheels & fenders are now off. The bike is vivid black and has some swirls etc that I'd like to polish out and put a serious "show shine" on.

Contimplating a "complete starter kit" from Autogeek that's built around the Porter Cable 7424. Comes with 5" & 3 1/2" backing plate and various pads.

My question is regarding the forks. Funds won't allow the full chrome front end, but I'l like to shine the aluminum up while I've got it apart. (forks still attached)

I work with some guys who own/fly small aircraft, and they all SWEAR by the product Nuvite. It's a polishing progress that gives aluminum a mirror finish.

Anyone with any experience with this product (motorcycle related?)

I've got 40k miles on the bike ('11,) and she still looks good.... but I'd like to put her back to "as new." I'll be using the buffer on the fender bunny's car and my truck as well...ya know, to justify the cost.

Thanks,

Beav

I've got the Porter Cable 7424 from Autogeek ( bought one of the "package" deals ) and it works great. I should note that I'm familiar with painting and have painted many vehicles over the years. The Porter Cable offers even the newby a very effective way to restore the brilliance to a finish that has seen better days without causing damage to the paint. I think it's well worth the dollars invested. As far as polishing the lower legs remember that you'll first have to remove the clear ( protective ) finish on them in order to be able to polish the aluminum. There are several ways to do this but I find "aircraft stripper" to be the most effective and quickest. Once the clear has been removed you can begin to polish. You'll probably want to start out with a real fine grade ( #600 or finer grit ) sandpaper and go up from there. Once you've got all the imperfections our of the aluminum you can then begin to polish. Good Luck.

You sir, are HILARIOUS! (Well...at least everyone in your third grade class thinks so.)

I expect at least 4th grade level out of an Okie!
