I have a blacked out dyna and the CA DMV is offering "legacy plates" so I just ordered a black license plate. It could take 9 months to get it but whatever, it'll be cool. It is $50 to get one but you can also personalize it for that price.
So far the black plates are the only ones to make it.
How it works is they have 50's plates, 60's, 70's
See the image. If they get 7500 pre orders then they will go ahead and produce them. So far the black ones are the only ones that made it.
So I'm posting this for any CA people that want to get in on this. Not sure if this was the right place to post but since its going on my dyna then it's dyna related...i guess.
Edit: Any plate that doesn't reach 7500 by Jan 2015 won't be produced. At this stage I don't think the yellow or blue are gonna make it so if you want those 2 colors it probably won't happen , save your time. I could be wrong, maybe there will be a big surge at the end.

Also if you goto the CA DMV website you can see which personalized plates are taken/available so you don't need to guess and hope. Just type it in and it tells you right there. I spent about an hour finding the perfect 3 (since they give 3 choices) but hoping my #1 selection is still available when they make my plate.
why would anyone care what color their license plate was or pay $50 to get one...oh wait, we are talking california here.
Umm... maybe the same reason people care what color their bike is, or style their wheels are, or type of grips, or fender, or foot pegs, or pipes, etc....

haha, California hater! You mad bro?
To answer your question.
1) Because my white plate stands out on a black bike
2) $50 gets me a personalized plate too
3) because black plates haven't been around since the 50s
4) because I can
5) because it's F***ing awesome
