will it **** it up at all? wanting to tape directions onto the tank and make sure it won't pull the paint off. I assume it will leave behind some type of residue but I can get that off with goo gone.
The only thing I can think of that might help is a little gentle heat from a hairdryer but wait 'till you hear more suggestions.
I think you'll be fine but, patience will be required.
I used to always have something bungeed to the handle bars, would slip the directions under the bungee, then it was right in front of me. The gas tank is far down to look to read something.
PS do not use duct tape. Blue painters at the most

how shitty do you think the paint job is.....tape is not going to remove paint...
Might not remove paint, but old duct tape is a huge pain to remove. If on only a few days, probably no big deal, but why mess around with Goo gone if you don't have to?
I duct taped some screening over the gap between my mower blades and the intake on my power leaf rake, and after a couple of years it was a mess. Replaced with plastic tarp repair tape, much stronger, neater.
I've used some of those little "dots" that you use on garage sale items before, but I stuck them on the glass over the speedo where you could scrape them off with a razor if you had to( I didn't). Just big enough to write an exit # to remind you where to turn.....
