Hey all, have a question for you. Is there any adjustments I can do for the front brake lever? Here lately my brake light stays on even after using my brake for a long time. I get the little red light in on the speedo and then push the brake handle forward and the brake light goes off and so does the little red light. A few bumps down the road then the brake light is back on. Is there an adjustment to make the lever go all t he way out when not on the brakes? Also the handle rattles liek crazy too. Hope this is something I can fix on my own or do I need to take back to dealer? Thanks
I have a 2011 FXDF and had the same problem. I had had my grips changed before I started having issues with mine. Took it in to the dealer under extended warranty with a few other problems all of which they fixed. The cause was stated to me was that when the grips were installed the shim was not placed in place before removing/loosening the switch and brake resevior which caused a very small piece to break which would not return the brake lever far enough to turn out the brake light.
It now goes out when the lever is released but it is not as fast it was before it broke. I was also told that it is very common for that piece to get broken when the switch and brake reseviour are loosened.

Bigtruck is right if the end of the switch is broken. You can check by holding the brake lever in and looking in with a flashlight. If you don't see a nipple like black rubber protrusion then it is the switch itself and is more of a pain to change than the following possibility. All you need here is a new switch and some skill.
But from what you are describing the actuator for the front brake is sticking and won't push out far enough to make contact. Some guys have had success with simply cleaning out the reservoir and piston, others , like myself, changed the piston and I haven't looked back for two years now. either way you need to bleed your brakes and change out the fluid, I opted for the piston kit which is about 30$.
I forgot to use that little spacer when working on the front brake lever a few times. I was lucky I did not snap off that piece. When you buy a new master cylinder the little spacer is already in the lever. I saved it. Now I have to remember to use it.
Thanks guys, I have a few other issues I need the dealer to look at anyways to will tack this on the list as well. Here in Hawaii after riding for a while then coming to a stop then taking off it sounds like a spark knock when you throttle before taking off. Even does it when coming to a stop and you kinda bump the throttle a litte before down shifting. Kinda annoying really but that and the lever will be on the list of things for them to check since it is only a year old so should be under warranty. Again thanks for the help, I love forums as there are many smart minds on them.
