Default Hand Shields/Guards

So I am looking at getting some shields. Wondering if anyone has tried these ones from greatbikegear.com? Or any recommendations are welcome!

Thanks!

These are available from several companies, and in several configurations, and at several price points. I have the JD Customs & Fabrications product and am quite satisfied with it. Here are some names that come to mind:

JD Customs & Fabrication: http://jdcustomsandfabrications.bigcartel.com/
Valholl Counter Culture: http://www.valhollcc.com/
the Powder Pro (forum member): http://www.thepowderpro.com/
West Coast T-Bars: http://www.westcoast-tbars.com/Produ...uctCode=NRCCHG

Yes, I purchased the medium ones, in matte black. Here is a picture showing them mounted:

I really like my JD's. I have the medium, coffin cut. A couple observations:

Since they're mounted to the mirror stalks, the up/down angle changes with the angle of your clutch and brake levers (assuming you have stock controls). If you like your levers angled down some, you'll get more wind over the back of your hand. I angled my levers up a little more than I otherwise would to make the guards more effective.

If you have bars with lots of pullback angle, you either have the guards angled as well, OR have them further away from your hand. Either makes them a little less effective, IMO. Not a big deal, though. I'm about to switch from a Glide bar to a T-bar with less pullback angle, so we'll see.

Thanks for the info! I have my levers up a tad bit also. Very helpful... ordering right now.

our mounts are made of steel, tig welded and powder coated... the guards we did not want to reinvent the wheel so we use a guard that has impact testing and studies to prove what it does, we use power madd guards on our mounts. I have customers that have gone down and reported back that the guard wrapped their hand and protected it in the slide, when i got hit it did the same for me and the mount took the brunt of the impact. i worried about the metal guards folding in and slicing off my fingers if anything happened so i wanted to find a different option. We are heavy into power sports here in the shop so we took a que from that, i have never seen a quad, sled, or bike have metal guards in my life, what do all the major riders use... power madd, so that is where we started our design process and ended up with the product we have today. I will never bash another companys products and we have coated several of the JD customs guards they are very well made, are a great company to work with, and offer a very nicely built affordable guard. When customers do not go with ours that is the direction i typically point them to. Just watch out, there are other shops out there that boast about them making the strongest guards, what "would you rather have cold rolled steel or plastic" or our guards will take impacts... then if you look even the mounts are 1/8 steel, bendable with your hands... i do not claim that our guards will do much more than keep wind off your hands and bugs from smashing your knuckles, i never would say they will save your hands in any type of a wreck. I have just been down to many times to risk the gear i ride with on my bike... i know my guards kept my knucks from sliding on the ground when i got swiped on my sport touring and have heard the same from several of our customers... again it is a matter of preference on what you want to run. the best part about the demand for hand guards is it has brought out several options when you are looking to purchase yours for your bike and allows the consumer many options. I just caution that some company's that say "they are the strongest" you ask for proof. I had one of these companies try and bash our product on a facebook thread to try and move more of their own, yet when i asked for their impact testing, or any slow motion demo videos to prove how their products hold up in said circumstances they simply stopped responding. in my opinion power madd makes the best guard on the market, we couldn't compete with that flat out, so rather than try to make somethign better than what we use on all our toys, we made them work on our harleys... plus they have a huge line of accessories you can add to the guard as well.
as stated there are so many options out there now, really nice products. Just do not get sold on a claim without facts to back it up
