Default doh, passenger pillion

we i bought the factory pass pillion when i got my 07 denim streetbob. of course i should have done some research first. the bumper kit, as you guys probabaly know, sticks to the fender. unacceptable! ill ride solo 95% of the time. the wife will go for breakfast on the bike about twice a month. i wanted the 2 piece seat so i could remove the passenger part in favor of the motherwell rack. i realize the bumpers need to be there to protect the paint but i was wondering if anyone mounted the bumpers on the seat itself rather than the fender... or if its even possible. otherwise i guess ill just get a 2 up seat and switch that on for the time ill carry a passenger. any thoughts are welcome.

thanks

yup, you can, i did. there are some nice flat spots under there that they would normally rest against from the other direction.

i never understood why they wanted you to stick them too the fender, never made much sense to me.

btw, i was digging around last night and it looks like HD now offers a quick release kit for the pillion. i too ride solo most of the time and i ended up buying a whole other seat and pillion (good deals on ebay) so's i could just swap out so cause i didn't wanna bolt and un-bolt it all the time. it's in the seats section online. can't really tell how it works by looking at the picture but it's not very expensive, like less than $30.

Dump that pillion and get a thin profile seat like a badlander or something you'll probably find yourself leaving it on so much that you'll sell the solo also I did.

I also tried putting the bumpers right onto the seat, but they didn't stick! They came off, and now i have a NASTY spot on my fender where the bolt that holds the two pieces of the seat together sits. You can't see it, even with only the solo seat on, but knowing it's there drives me crazy!

Bought a new bumper kit, and put them on the fender and haven't had a problem. Besides, the pillion is too much of a pain in the *** to take off the solo that it doesn't lend itself well to going back and forth anyway

I'm guessing they want them on the fender because if their on the seat they could move and rub the paint off. I acutally prefered to have the pass seat on, I kept feeling like I was going to slide off the stock one. I just put a Sundowner on today tho.

thank god. i thought those flat spots on the pass. seat looked like a good place for the tabs. its done and bolted together and one the bike. put the pass pegs on too. instructions said to losen the belt but with the right tools (torx socket and 5/16" racheting box end) i was able to get them on no problems w/o messing with the belt. anyway, thanks for the help. now its all coming off (the pegs ill leave

I bought the quick change kitthe other day on Ebay cost $22 with shipping. HD MSRP is $79. Got it thru OLD Farts Harley Parts. P/N 51668-97. Should be here today then I will post pics. Somebody else used this and said it will work but need to notch it out.

That would have been me. It does work, and it's a real quick on and off. Just a thumbscrew. I put the bumpers on the pillion, I didn't read the instructions until after I was done and it just made sense at the time that they went on the pillion.

I use a Mustang fender bib under the pillion to protect the fender...
