Hey FNG welcome to HDF. These guys have it wrong. you don't want to remove the strap just the seat right? Once that rear bolt is off slide the strap as far as you can towards the tank, then grab the rear of the seat and pull back until the tab slides out from under the tank. Then angle the seat away from the tank and slide the strap back as you push the seat forward. duh duh done!
You could avoid all this ribbing if you RTFM. First you will need to buy one though!
Strap does not have to come off to remove seat. Makes it absolutely miserable to remove it though. So once seat is off get rid of the strap. Only reason I've ever found use for it was to slide gloves or ball cap under. It's called a grab strap for some reason. Maybe its so you can ride your bike one handed like a rodeo bull.

It's about a 30 second job on mine even with the strap. Remove rear bolt, pull seat backwards to disengage the tab that sits under the fuel tank, then twist the seat through 90 degrees and slide it out from under the strap. Be careful not to scratch the paint on the rear fender though.
