Default crankcase ventilation

First off, I big thank you to forum member SmokeyStover. His setup was the base inspiration for my setup. In short, running breathers behind air cleaner backplate, between the cylinders and into a catch can behind the cowbell.

Fairly easy project, spent more time on precision than anything. Couple notes, the cowbell was slightly too small to fit the conduit clamp inside, so I squeezed it on a vice to expand it a tad bit. Also space between the cylinders is small and difficult to work with.

Other than that all went well. Might have to change the catch can vent method. I have a mesh screen on it now but I was able to catch wafts of oil "aroma" a red lights on the test drive.

However it's nice to report that there seems to be an ever so slight increased response in throttle. Not scientific, just going off feel. And now some pictures.

He will take it off and drain it. I hunk that is a pretty slick setup. Nice work. The only downside or what if I can think of is the extra weight on the horn cover and that rubber isolator of the horn bracket. And by the way I use that make a gasket rubber for all kinds of ****

I am new to this engine and I am curious as to why you did this and what does it accomplish for you?

A lot of us believe that we are getting too much crankcase oil fed into our intakes, leading mainly to nasty buildup. Look at the attached pics of the tops of my pistons after only 6000 miles. I've ruled out other oil leaks into the combustion chamber, and my intake is always dripping with oil. Regardless, no engine benefits from sucking hot, frothy oil into its intake. It's only routed there because of bullshit emissions regulations.

I guess i didn't capture it in a picture (I'm not the greatest at taking progress pictures)...but there is a bolt on the bottom of the catch can. I wouldn't even have to take the can out of the assembly, just unbolt and drain the waste into container. I tried my best to line it up as low as possible while still being hidden so i don't have to reach up in there to drain.

It's actually not that heavy at all. Maybe just a little heavier than the horn was? It seems like a sturdy setup. I did some hard test riding to put some load on the engine with this setup. However in the morning I will check everything to see if it became misaligned at all.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is all with the stock air cleaner assembly, and that is temporary until my bank account recovers enough to do a full stage one. At that point, I'll likely go with DK Customs intake (I really dig that clear cyclone one).

The big question is, at what interval to drain this thing. Before hooking it all up, I did intermittent starts to test how much pressure the blow-by was coming out of the breathers with. First with just stock tubes, then with the stock tubes hooked 2 into 2 fuel line, then with the 2-1. Happy to say that the pressure seemed uninterrupted with the new routing. But I'd like to note that With just the stock rubber breather tubes not hooked into anything and the engine running i saw it drip little tiny droplets of oil as i gave the throttle a few revs. and that was just idling with a few throttle twists, curious to see what would come out under load on the freeway.

EDIT: my main concern is the fact that i can easily smell the oil vapor when at a stop. It's not overwhelming, but it is easily noticeable if the wind carries that air in my direction. It doesn't really bother me much, and part of me wants to leave the little mesh filter as is; that way if i ever don't smell anything than that's a clear sign that there is a blockage. Idk...thoughts anyone?

Could the oil build up over time lead to hard/trouble starting when the engine is hot? I like this mod, can you list what and where you picked up your parts. I would really like to get any of the oil out of my intake if I can.

Default i gotta ask

where's the horn mounted now?. excellent engineering!, ill admit that it will eliminate the oil being routed through the combustion chamber to be burned off. your piston tops will probably be cleaner as will the throttle body. but there will be "0" horsepower/throttle response increases/changes from this mod. im not raining on what you did, it is great work at concealing the can, equal to a factory component!.

You sure about that? Adding hot, moist oil to the intake charge wouldn't hurt performance in any way?
