Default Handlebar install

Just got a new set of apes, wondering how difficult of an install this is? I'm decent with a wrench and don't really wanna pay the labor for somebody else to do it. I figure the only difficult part is running the internal wiring. Also, this is prob a dumb question, but will I have to replace my grips as well? Thanks

1) Buy a service manual
2) Look for some YouTube Videos
3) Search the forums as there should be many posts listed under your bikes model
4) Your grips should be okay but you might need cables
5) Consumption of alcohol should only be done as part of your successfully completed project celebration...

Sometimes the old grips can be reused, just depends on if they were damaged when removing from the stock handlebars. The grip on the left side is usually glued on, so it is very easy to damage when taking off. You may find YouTube helpful to you when installing... Hope all goes well with the install

That's the perfect time to swap them out.

To these: http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...09-56100008--1

I love these, HD should use these as OEM on all bikes, these set the standard in my book. Find them somewhere when they have the 20% off sales.

I always wonder whose hands they modeled original grips for, people without palms I guess

if the left grip is glued on ,remove every thing off the bars except the grip, get a jug off boiling hot water and put the bar/grip in it for a minute, it will release the glue and your grip will pull off:icon_ba nana:

First project ever on my bike was replacing handlebars, extending wires, running them internally, replacing switch housing, switch caps, idle & throttle cable. Google & YouTube are your best friends AND take your time!
If I can do it - you can do it!
