So i gave up my sport bike riding cause I don't have any friends with them. I bought a 2014 Dyna Super Glide Custom back in August. I really like the bike, wasn't sure I would since I always went 'fast riding". I put V&H twin oval Slip-ons on cause the stock 1's sounded like wet farts & looked hideous to me. My question is do I need to invest 4350 in V&H Fuel Pak3? Will it make that much of a performance difference. I am surprised/happy W/quickness this "heavy" bike has.Just need to convince the wife to go for a ride.
Thank you.
Kevin
I also came from sportbikes. I have v&h straightshots full system with stage 1 a/c nd the fuelpak. Im not sure if this helps but unless u change your a/c you dont really need a fuelpak. I never rode my bike without those upgrades but ive been told you will notice a ditterence with the stage 1 upgrades. As far as getting the wife on good luck mine wont get near my harley but I could get her on the rocket... go figure
Kevin, I rode sport bikes for many years before I switched to HD. I am very glad I did and wonder why it took so long. You do not really NEED a tuner if all you changed are the slip ons. The FP3 will help your bike out in that it will get you out of the lean condition that the bike comes from the factory with for EPA reasons. If you want to see some performance gains for not a lot of $$, get an Arlen Ness Big Sucker, or a Sreamin Eagle intake, or any brand high flow air intake. Then get the FP3 and put it on. You can download a map to your FP3 that will match up pretty close to your equipment and go from there. I ran the auto tune on the FP3 a few times to fine tune the downloaded map and I am very happy. Another cheap mod is to remove the catalytic converter from your stock header. You would need to auto tune again after that to get the best performance.
My 2014 Street Glide: Screamin Eagle intake, V&H 4" Slash cuts, De-catted Header, FP3 tuner.
Thanks guys!! I might do the cat removal & pick up FP3 this summer.
I got the wife on the CBR929RR once & she wouldn't get on the 954RR which I loved way more than 929. I hope some day her friends will convince her to try the HD, because it is such a different riding experience!!!
If you have a Super glide and changed the mufflers, which you said you did, your cats are already gone. They are in the mufflers on the Super glides. I know, I own one. Congrats, BTW, Superglides are the best HDs IMHO.
Congrats on the bike, like some have said there are some decent advantages. I put my FP3 on prior to receiving and installing my exhaust. The smoothness of acceleration, and initial throttle response was a MUCH better experience once I installed the FP3. I only ran it for a week before installing the new stuff but I will say it was very worthwhile. I had done a an advanced riding lesson a few days before and it was pretty rough riding the bike in first and second gears for 3 hours during low speed maneuvers, lots of almost lugging. With the FP3, no problem.
If you just want it to run a little better I would just get a set of xieds from nightrider.com I have had them on 2 different bikes and they made a difference in the way the bike runs. Plus, if you aren't going to be doing and internal motor upgrades, they will be cheaper than a tuner.
I picked up my '14 Switchback the day before it snowed, so I'm about 3 months away from upgrades.
I went with a V&H slip on. de-catted headpipe. SE Stage 1 Air Cleaner kit (the one that fits under the stock cover).
And ordered an FP3 off of EBay ($310). From what I've read, unless you are planning some future high performance motor work, the FP3 is the best bang for the buck. And Autotune will keep you from paying those dyno fees.

I did not know that! That is really good because removing the cats is a real PITA. I wound up buying a decatted set and swapping out. Gotta love the HDF.
