Just picked up my 2008 FXD - going to bring it into a local independent shop for a service. It only has 3500 miles, but i want all the fluids changed and have someone give it a thorough once over. I'll eventually familiarize myself enough to at least do minor work, but till then..
I was told to expect around $350 for a full service - red line fluids, plugs, adjustment of all cables and belt, and a thorough inspection. Coming from BMW dealer service prices, it doesn't seem too bad. But not knowing what to expect for the Dyna, I wanted to check here.
Also, besides the above, anything I want to have them check on a new bike?
The Indy I took my bike to has full service, all 3 holes, check everything, lube stuff, etc. Its about $300 plus parts. Like what you described. Since its in CT, prices may be similar to NY. See link below.
Money well spent on a used bike IMHO. They found a couple of things on a bike otherwise in great shape.
The 1000-mile service on my Street Bob (which I had the dealer perform to forestall any warranty issues) came to exactly $340.59. Your price looks right on the money, so to speak.
That's about right whiskey river hd where I bought my new street bob wanted around that for my 1000 mile service I was going to pay it since it was the first service although I normally do my own services and mechanic work until they told me it would be three weeks before they could get to it I thought this was craziest thing I ve heard three weeks for a job that takes a hour or so to do is sum bull **** I bought some amsoil and the amsoil primary and trans fluid new o rings and gasket for the derby cover for 80 bucks and took my time still got it done in under two hours with checkin all the bolts found two exhaust bolts that were about to fall out we're the dealer had put vance & hines slip ons on the bike for free before I bought it I had noticed it starting to rattle a lil the day before I took it up there stuff like this is why I'd rather just do it myself save three hundred and know it's done right
That's a fair price, But there's no better way to get familiar with it than buying a HD manual and DIY.
If it still has the original seven year old battery go to Batteries + and get the Duracel, 400 cca 2year warranty.
Oh, And the tires might be dried out and cracking/splitting.Fresh rubber rides much better/safer.
