My new front tire arrived today. Tomorrow I'm taking it and the rim to a tire shop to get a tube and to get them to trial fit the tire to the rim and inflate it before I take it all apart again get the wheel built. I'm a little nervous if I'm honest as the whole project hinges on the tire/rim combination working as I don't seem to be able to find a 17" rim in the perfect width.
I have a Fat Bob with a stock front end and installed a Fat Boy front fender using the klockwerks adaptors mentioned above. Install was simple, no modification required. Check out my sig pic and album for final results.
I had the tire and tube trial fitted to my front rim today to make sure it fits nicely before going ahead with getting the wheel built up. I was relieved that it fitted perfectly and looked really good and seriously fat. I'll post a picture up when I've opened a photobucket account.
This is my 2005 FXDL that now has FatBob trees, 49mm FXDB fork tubes, 320mm MMC rotors (2.2#/ea), real Brembo calipers, V-Rod lowers, and my 30mm Ohlins cartridges. The picture below is now undergoing a Switchblade headlight nacelle, "beercan" extender adapters, and 2014~current FLT sliders. I purchased a fiberglass rear FLT type rear fender & a Street Stalker front fender (8 oz). The wheels are my 16"X3.75" C/F dresser (WideGlide) front type.
The 2006 FXD all have a raised (set/FXDF) of caliper bracket(s) that make every aftermarket caliper bracket adapters will not work including my own. The V-Rod & FLT (2000~Current) have the caliper brackets lower and aftermarket calipers are available as is larger rotors.

Hey FH, looks good...Now about that "every aftermarket caliper bracket adapters will not work including my own". Why can't you make some adapters that will work? I ask that without yet looking into making adapters, but well aware of the different caliper mounting bosses placement. Also having 49mm V-Rod, FXD, FXDF, and within just a couple days, a set of 2014-15 FXDL sliders in my possession.

So hopefully that's a picture of the new tire trial fitted onto the bare rim. Fitted really nicely, better than I'd expected. Need to get the wheel built now.
