If I understand what has been said here, is the only reason for removing the inner and outer primary to eliminate the shaft that runs through it?
It sounds like on the new 06's there is no place to attach the linkage from the forward control to the shift arm, unless a teller shift arm is installed which requires removal of primary cover and chain . They obviously must use a different shift arm in the dyna's then they use on the wide glides.Figure HD would of used the same parts to keep costs down. Glad I have an 05.
Reason I asked is because the older FXR's had the same setup as the low riders of later years and they used a cap on end of the shaft that came through the primary ( middle of the inspection cover) and a clip on the back of the inner to hold it in place and thus no removal of the primary , inner or outer was necessary. The WG's use a different setup that is all external of the primary case..
