Default Changing Bars

Hey folks...I am always changing my bars on my 2010 Wideglide...What I am wondering if there is an easy fix for the internal wiring as pulling all the pins from the plugs is a pain and very time consuming...Has anyone tried to put the later model plugs on an earlier bike as they are supposed to fit through the bars...Or if someone has another fix please post it up...

Cheers...Sparra

Haven't done it, however I don't see any reason why you couldn't change the connectors to another type. They would need to be waterproof/weatherproof. Check with the dealer parts dept. to see if they sell the newer style connectors and pins - find the right crimp tool and away you go (after carefully mapping out the connectors...!)

The later model plugs are for the CAN wiring harness. CAN (Controller Area Network) does not use as many wires since they are a 2 way communication system and multiple signals are sent through each wire. It would be more difficult to change all the plugs over to the CAN plugs than to use wire extensions with the correct Molex tool that you need.

If you need the tool, here is a link to our ebay store:

Thank you!

Curiosity got to me:

72907-11 - Housing, 4-way
72908-11 - Housing, 4-way Socket
72907-11 - Housing, 2-way
72906-11 - Housing, 2-way Socket
72909-11 - Terminal Pin

Not saying this is everything you need, but it's a start!

Edit: I saw Ron's response. Would they use CAN for simple switching used on the bars? Even if so, you could still use the newer, smaller connectors as long as the pin count is the same I expect.

The above parts are from a '14 FXDC, and there are many more options - 3 pin, 6 pin, ect.

YMMV

It really isn't all that difficult or time consuming, but it seems like it just reading about it.

its not time consuming when you get the technique down,,,, popping the pins is easy or you could cut after the connector in the neck and use some water proof male/ female spade connectors....
