Default Break In period

So, I know there is a break in period for new engine work, cams, factory, etc, however I DON'T know if there is a period that's the same for new pipes, and an air cleaner? Want to make sure I don't ruin any new parts before I buy them. I have a couple long trips coming up, and if I need to do a break in period, it means waiting to buy the parts.

Thanks,
Jess

Throw 'em on and ride. If chrome pipes, make sure you clean them real good before you fire it up or you'll end up with permanent fingerprints on them.

I've never heard of a break in period for pipes or intake. Just throw them on and go.

that is very important even if you buy black ceramic pipes because the finish has to cure.

I will add that you should ride as usual with your new toys twist it or milk it that's up to you and your riding style, but check your flange bolts after 50 miles if they are still nice and snug the way you put them on your golden forget about it and show those babies off! If they came a little loose tighten them and it should not re-occur. Do not over tighten them or use any sort of locktite, check all your bolts while your at it one time and then forget about just ride!

I have heard many people say that a cars performance exhaust will sound a bit better once its got a few miles on it and "broken in". I remember mustang guys raving about the prochamber and x pipe midpipes. I always thought my h pipe sounded the best from day one.

What break-in period? It has actually been proven that babying a motor for a period of time will not have any positive benefit to the lift of the motor. Getting on the bike, starting it, letting it warm up, and then riding it like you stole it is the best way to break your motor in. I reference the below article for reading, pretty interesting stuff... I've followed this method for numerous types of motors now, from race ATVs, utlity ATVs, sport bikes , all without issues, actually running stronger because of the method chosen for break-in.

That's still breaking it in, even if the author has a different opinion on the best way to do it.

I went and put ZMAX in mine. I put half the bottle in there with the oil. I also use Lucas Oil gasoline treatment. It was a new used bike with only 1500 miles on the odometer. However the question came up-at the dealership: Did the oil get changed by it's previous owner at break in? The dealership had no record. I concluded it had been changed by the owner. Later this bike gets sold and
the new dealership shop only inspects all the fluids whenever they receive a used bike for resale. You'd think that there were certain maintenance facts put into the computer using a vin number.
