Default Blind nut Seat mounting hardware

Hey everyone,

I'm in the process of re-painting my Street Bob and it has always bothered me that I have one of these ugly things in place for my solo seat as well as one in the other hole for a double seat:

http://www.jpcycles.com/product/8200095

I switch seats out if I'm riding alone or if I'm with my lady I throw the double on. Problem is it's a hassle to constantly put one of those ^ in every time she wants to go out (can't fit my hand under there) but I can't stand the look of it always sitting there on my rear fender.

I've seen the option of the blind nut from JP cycles but they have really bad reviews:

Does anyone have any other ideas? I'd really like to clean up the look of my rear fender and just have a plug in the hole when I'm just riding with a solo seat. Does anyone have any pictures or suggestions on what they've done?

I'm on a 2006 Street Bob. I'll just use the regular seat mount nut kit for the solo seat as that's mostly covered by my seat bolt and looks cleaned up, I just hate seeing the passenger seat hardware on the fender when there's a solo seat on.

Let me know any suggestions, please post pictures if you can.

Thank you!

Run a fender bib to clean up the look.

Fender bibs are good looking to me but if that's not your thing tanked, you could wrap some duct tape around the end of a ruler or pointer and hold the steel piece in place while you secure it with the clip. And for 5$ buy another that way you will only have one to mess with. UggHH the things we do for love!

Thanks for the suggestions! Has anyone ever used the blind nut hardware? It's like exactly what I'm looking for but everyone says they just break right away (on the JP reviews)

Looks like a simple well nut to me available at Lowes. They are most effective when fully compressed. Perhaps some of the reviewers were only going hand/finger tight and not fully crushing the nut. Oh they may feel snug but have not expanded enough to fully exceed the diameter of the hole.

Personally the blind nut sounds like a good idea, but that one does not sound like a good one by the reviews. Going from single to two up was a pain until I bought a second mount which is extremely easy to install. Use a piece of rope or wire through fender and the through the mount. tie a knot on the end and pull it up through the fender and pop on the clip. Get a decorative bolt and use it in the empty hole when riding solo.

Does anyone know what size hole you need to plug up a hole in a fender? I think I'm just going to plug the few holes in my fender with plugs like these:

And then use your method of fishing a piece of wire through to swap it out when I add the double seat. Sounds super easy.

What size hole plugs are in the Street Bob Fenders? I heard HD charges $5-$6 per plug (don't know if that's right or not but I'd believe it). That site has them for $0.18

Use a long wire tie and feed it in the bottom of the nut and then fish the wire tie up inside the fender thru the hole, then you can hold the nut in the hole easier while you put the clip on.

The HD plug is nice. It has a tab for the key slot and has a bar and sheild logo stamped on it. Fits nice and flush too. It will look a million dollars better than a hardware store hole plug.

I use a nylon zip tie to put the HD one pretty simple.
