Back flow must be what happens when the engine is turned off I suspect?
Really really dobt that would hurt anything as lomg as a filter is doing it job of trapping comtaminents.
Backflow is an issue, hence why quality filters have anti-backflow membrane (can't think of a better word to describe it). Think about it like this, you are pushing this oil with contaminates one way into a filter element. If the oil is allowed to flow the other way it will just let all of the trapped contaminates, that are being held on the filter element by the oil flowing one way, to go back into the motor. This might not be a major issue but if we are getting down to what is the best filtration its something to note.
If you think that using a re-usable engine oil filter; regardless of its attributes orf cost is nothing more than a marketing scam, read this... Not sure what the environment has to do with how well a filter filters out contaminates. But if you're worried about the environment by moving to AMSOIL oil you can go longer between oil changes and as a result have less used oil and filters needing to be recycled.
But back the point of this thread I'm still interested to hear more about DK's filter.

Easy to clean I remove the oil filter housing with a 17mm socket, remove the cartridge and spring from the housing and spray the stainless steel filter media with brake cleaner from the inside out, push the pressure bypass on the bottom of the cartridge a couple of times to let the brake cleaner drip through, wipe down the filter cartridge and rare earth magnet with a paper towel and then allow it to dry for a few minutes; use paper towels to wipe down the interior and exterior of the billet housing and the spring, put the spring in the housing with the small tapered end facing up, put the cartridge back in the housing, push down and rotate it to lock it in then put a bit of oil on the quad ring and reinstall back on the bike, seat the filter then a 1/8th turn with a 17mm socket.
TinCupCallice; my quad ring still looks perfectly intact after 15k mi and 5 oil changes.
Maybe the use of syn lubes has helped? But I should probably use my spare for the next change.
How often or how long do you ride before a quad ring change and what type lube do you use?
My most recent lube brand was AMSoil after constant brand switches and I will never switch from AMSsoil!
What it has done is nothing short of a phenomena in how my Slim performes
have been using the flo pcs on my bob for at least 4 years. put about 20 some odd thousand miles on my bike a year and love it. It came with an extra gasket and have had to use it as my first got wore out. Clean it just like said above. Doesn't really take that long to clean so only have the one, but it is all you need.
I can normally get 5 - 7 removal/installs before the quad ring starts to look a bit distorted and I change it out. I've got a box full of Z-065 and Z-064 quad rings for the PCS1's and PCS4 filters, I've used these permanent filters for ages on my track bikes and HD's. If the face of your filter housing is smooth and you're not heavy handed seating the filter you should see a few more changes before you notice the quad ring beginning to distort. A friend of mine started using the PCS1 on his new Gold Wing and destroyed the quad ring every change, I found a sharp burr on the filter housing on his Wing, once I got the face polished he was going though 1 quad ring a season doing 6 -7 changes; he rides a lot
I come at HD's from an old school perspective and run SAE 50 Valvoline VR1 racing oil. Fuel injection aside, these are still older tech air cooled pushrod engines, the VR1 has a higher zinc/phosphorus content than more 'modern' oils, my older HD's and now my '13 seem to like it
