Default Fender Bracket/Lift Question

I've been racking my brain trying to figure this one out guys, I need someone else's thoughts on it. The previous owner of my bike put some random hardware on it to mount the bags, and I wanted to do something to be able to quick detach. Well, none of the stuff he had on there was the same size, and two of them mounted outside-in, and two of them mounted inside-out (bolt head inside fender). I thought cutting the bolt close to the fender bracket would give me enough room to push it out the inside, but no joy.

After seeing Robbyville's thread on mounting his Leatherpros, where he removed the bottom shock mount, I thought it would work for me the same way. I removed mine, and instead of the fender bracket staying in place, and the fender dropping, the fender, bracket, and the entire frame of the bike dropped down on top of the rear tire. My ATV/bike lift won't get low enough to get underneath the frame to lift it back up, and I can't budge it by hand, so I'm looking for ideas...here are some pics to show you what I'm working with.

Youve removed both rear shocks, why? These carry the weight of the whole bike!

http://www.powersportsplace.com/part...0xcaAsAW8P8HAQ this should help or the ol' 2x6 with a pipe version, ratchet straps on the garage ceiling could also help...good luck

I'd echo the idea of ratchet straps from above. I see now what you mean. Challenge was removing shocks with bike still on ground so it essentially collapsed on itself. Need to jack it up a bit before removing lower bolts (if doing both at same time). Then the rear wheel and swingarm will come down. That coupled with removing the bolts from the fender brackets I think is what did you in?

Once you get it raised up enough to put the jack underneath, use the lift to raise/lower the lower shock eyes into alignment, ensuring you don't cross thread anything. I did my left side and then took me a few minutes of raising/lowering and general goofing around to make sure the right bolt was properly aligned with the threads.

Good luck!

Thanks guys, I'll get to work on that when I get home. Problem was, I couldn't get the jack underneath it in the first place to raise it up, which was why I thought removing the shock bolts would help. I misunderstood what had gone on in Robby's situation and didn't realize the fender brackets were tied into the frame. I'll get the ratchet straps on the ceiling and get 'er back together. Thanks again!

Good luck, FWIW I edited the post in my original thread to include jacking up the bike prior to shock bolt removal I hope it all works out, I'm sure it will. Just need to get it lifted enough to get the jack underneath!

Couldn't have racked your brain too much if you thought to use the lift after removing the shocks!

I know you said you can't budge it, but could you start it up and CAREFULLY ride it up onto a 2x4 or two under your tire?

I had lower shocks before and the only way I could get my lift under it was to get something under the tire.

Roll the front wheel up on a piece of 2x6 or 2x8 or whatever and then get the jack under it. Have someone brace the board so it doesn't want to scoot on you.
