How hard is it to install thescrew mount thing where the seat screws into on a streetbob. I was thinking about buying two up seat and was just wondering if you have to do anything special to install the screw in mount. Anybody got any pics of two up seats on a street bob
remove plug
tie a knot in some wire and slide the retainer nut over the wire to the knot.
feed the wire b/t the tire and fender to hole
use the wire to hold the retainer nut in place wile you slide the C clip on .
If you buy the screw from harley they give you a long zip tie...use it to feed it up from the bottom you don't need to remove any parts other than the plug in the hole...Later
I used the same technique as jonpiper. I used a long twist tie (a few of them connected together) instead of a wire, though. I had a few layin' around.
The black plastic fender cover popped out with a fingernail.
Thread the nut onto the wire. Tie a knot at the bottom of the wire for the nut to rest on. Feed the wire up inside the rear fender and through the fender nut hole. Rotate the nut into place (this will make sense when you see it. it only fits in one position) and install the plastic retaining clip.
You'll notice the black plastic retaining clip has two tiny divots in it. Those divots go up (not down towards the fender).
Once the retaining clip is in place, the nut is good to go. Just let the wire slip down through the fender and onto the ground.
One thing to keep in mind: I wouldn't ride with just the nut installed. You should have something screwed into it or it would probably ratttle out in the first mile. That retaining clip is kinda cheesy.
It's a 5 minute job, including walking out to the bike. I bought a Motherwell luggage rack and they were kind enough to include the fender nut kit in my order.

I've riden phor thousands of miles with just the seat retention nut in the phender and nothing in it. Never lost it. No need to remove it every time you go phrom solo to 2-up.
Other then that, the rest of the information on installing it is accurate. I used a zip tie, but it's all the same.
Thanks Phreak. I installed the luggage rack 30 seconds after the fender nut, so I've never riden with just the fender nut. It was pure speculation on my part that it could drop out on the first bump in the road. I didn't want to test my theory...You say it's stayed put for you, that's good news. I won't bother to remove / re-install when I take my rack off. Thanks for the info.
