Looking at buying a 2012 Switchback that is mostly stock... Anyone have any buyer bewares? pros or cons? I really like the bike. I just don't want to be surprised.
I have a 2013. The only thing I'm aware of is possbile vibration in the 2700rpm - 3300rpm zone, due to the rear mount for the exhaust. Some people have it, some don't. I had it. My wife's 2013 FLD (yeah, she has one too) did not. If you do have it, do a search on the "clevis pin mod". Cost is less than $5 at your local hardward store for a clevis pin and some washers. It took the offensive vibes out of the bike. I've since gone to a V&H full system Pro Pipe and have zero exhaust related vibes.
Other than that, you'll find the FLD has a few proprietary parts that are not shared with other Dyna's.
FLD forks are 41mm, vs. 49mm for all the other Dyna's. Also, the right fork has the traditional damper rod setup, and the left fork has a cartridge. All the other Dyna's have damper rods in both fork legs.
QD setup for sissy bar and what not is specific to the FLD, as is the rear fender.
The windscreen matches the hardware pattern of the Road King.
There may be a regulator recall on the 2012's as well. Not sure. Otherwise, it's been a very enjoyable solid bike.
You may want to check out the Switchback Owners Group forum. Lots of good info there.

thanks in advance.
I have a 3013 and absolutely love it. I have owned other bikes and this so far is my favorite. I have a full Samson exhaust which got rid of the vibration problem. I can turn it from a cruiser to a full on tour style bike in about 5min. I have really personalized mine with parts and powdercoating, it's all about making it yours.
This is the one I am looking at now.. I found a sweet one but the dealer got all shady on it when it came time to buy.. I'm not sure what they were trying to pull, but anyway.. I am thinking I can talk these guys on the grounds that this bike is all scratched up. but they said "It hasn't been laid down"...

it looks like it's been dropped a few times. Overall it doesn't look bad and the mileage is low. I would try to get it for 12.5k OTD cause a lot of those scratched parts can be replaced or powdercoated.
I bought a 2012 with all these mods done, V&H slip on, cat drilled out, stage 1 A/C, predator mount, electronic cruise, driving lights and front signal relocation. This is an agile and fun bike, coming off a sportbike I didn't think I would like it this much. Looking forward to many miles on it
Hey Guys, just picked up a 2012 FLD Switchback. 10k miles... it's mostly stock.. has the quick attach sissy and luggage rack and engine guards. Everything else is stock. The last owner took out the baffles though.
I am looking to do Exhaust, Intake, Apes & Cables, and some TLC.
let me know what you guys have done that is good. I am researching.. I came across the Rinehart Crossbacks and I thought they looked and sounded pretty dang good.. But I'm not trying to break the bank!
