Default Fairing for Dyna

I'm looking at the Dead Center Road Captain fairing for my 05 Dyna Low Rider. I have never ridden with a fairing before, but I would imagine it would block a lot of the wind on highway rides at 80+mph. I have a choice of 5", 7" and 9" windshield. I am 6'. Anyone have any suggestions on what size windshield would fit best for someone 6' on a low rider? Only complaint I have heard about fairings is sometimes the wind coming over the windshield can beat your head around a little. But with the right windshield I would hope that wouldnt be the case. Looking forward to finally having tunes on the ride.

I'm 5'9" and I got the 5" but I'm thinking I should of went with the 7". The 5" one comes to about the bottom of my chin. I guess it would depend on how you sit on the bike also. I have and FXDC with mids so I sit at more of an upright position.

Hoppee Industries makes a Road Glide style faring for the Dyna. I saw it in Daytona, it looks pretty cool. It has a killer stereo and projector headlamps. The guy in the booth said it was a couple grand but, it's a really sweet setup.

I went through a good amount of debating before I finally settled on the Memphis Shades batwing, due in large part from all of the good reviews and overall popularity on here.

It's been a love-hate relationship. When it's right, it's absolutely perfect! No wind-blast during the longer rides and it's actually amazing how you feel much less fatigued after the longer rides. The downside is that it took (and still is) forever to find the perfect setup. There are two adjustments you can make on the fairing besides the windshield choice (tilt forward from the bottom and top pivot points on the fork). That's still going on, and I think my recent 2" tank lift mod is going to make me have to start over.

Recommendation - DON'T get a "spoiler" windshield for the fairing. I purchased this type and found out quickly that there's a reason I've never seen anyone with one of these, despite it being a newer type. Save your money and get a regular one.

I'm 6" (30" inseam) and I got the 9". I should have gone with the 7" because once you get "relaxed" into riding after a few miles, you don't sit up perfectly straight anymore, haha. To get it perfectly right on "your" bike, it sucks, but you could get the fairing, have a friend measure from the top of the fairing to between your nose and upper lip, then order that size (remember to slouch a little since you probably won't have perfect posture after 30min-1hr of riding).

Good luck!

I have an 03 Low Rider and I installed the Dead Center Cycles Fairing.

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...g-install.html

I went with the 7" tinted from LRS. As in my post I'm only 5'8" and I could have gone with the 8" as I'm looking way over the top of the 7".

Thanks for the replies. I ordered the dead center road captain with 7" dark windshield. I figure I can always grab a 9" for the winter if I need it. I'm hoping it's more of a Love, than a Love/Hate relationship.
