FLT Hard Bag Insanity
I had to do some extensive repairs by hand to my leather saddlebags last year. Stitching waxed linen thread through each microscopic hole for five inches on my saddlebag lid, cutting leather straps, and riveting new buckles onto the bags also gave me this hair-brained idea to install FLT-style hard bags on my bike.
Now here's the problem: I don't feel like spending an arm and a leg for a saddlebag bracket setup. After doing some research, I think fabricating my own out of steel stock would be the best option. Does anybody know which type of steel I need?
I'd like to get these brackets made so I can install the hard bags I got for a present and make a little bit more space in my living room (the boxed pair of FLT-style bags is taking up a pretty good chunk of it).
Somebody call the loony bin, because I'm gonna be in dire need of a straitjacket after undertaking this project.
Here's what the current bags look like.
