I know this is subjective - everyone is going to have a different idea of what sounds good. So post up with what you think are the best sounding slipons. De-catting head pipe.
I have heard good things about the V&H slip-ons, you could also go to your local bike night. This will give you an idea of all the different slip-ons and the sounds of them.
Also, as Harleybob52 has recommended, you could try the Thunder Torque Inserts. You can use these with the stock exhaust or even with slip-ons. The great things about the Thunder Torque Inserts is they increase low and mid range torque and they allow you to be able to adjust the sound volume and tone, this lets you get the sound that you like best.
Below is a sound clip of a few different bikes with the Thunder Torque Inserts Installed. Hope this helps you out
The wide glide and fat bob both have the Tommy Gun exhaust. I had the Python Mambas on my Fat Bob before I went with a ProPipe. I left the cat in the collector and the Mambas sounded pretty good.
I just put a set of V & H Straight Shots slip-ons on my 2014 Street Bob and they sound good. And by good I mean loud...as in, when I first fired her up and cracked the bike, the nice, old, deaf guy that lives across the street gave me the thumbs up. No joke.
If you go to youtube and type in "2013 Harley Davidson Softail Heritage stage one" of course with out the quotes, I have a video of my Heritage with Vance and Hines Straight shots, Arlen Ness Big Sucker stage II, FPK3 running at idle just a couple months ago when I flashed my ECM with the new FPK3

I disagree. I put Cycle Shack slip on's on my bike several years back until I could save up for a "better" full exhaust system. Time came and I had plenty of money for new exhaust but I kept the Cycle Shack's because the sound is so good and they perform much better than the Screamin' Eagle's they replaced. My money for "better" exhaust went to new upgraded suspension front and rear.
My vote is for Cycle Shack's. In the $150 range on Amazon.
I am in the same boat with Ape_Hanger - I had / have Cycle Shacks on my 95 Dyna and my current 07 Street Bob and never looked back.
I had the Rush slipon with 1.75 inch baffles installed by the dealer on my new 2014 Wide Glide. They would not install any other baffle without a fuel mgmt system. They sound ok, but not near as loud as the 2 inch baffles on my 1200 Custom. I am discussing with Rush and may elect to change out the baffles.
