Default Plasti-dip rear shocks

Has anyone plasti-dipped their stock rear shocks without dismantling the shock itself?

I'm no mechanic or painter but it would seem you would have much better results taking off your rear shocks before dippin them. I changed my shocks out and it literally took me 5 min each or less. I would take them off and do it right if I was you.

Sorry, let me be more specific...id remove the shock. I was wondering if there was a way to do it without removing the spring from the shock.

If you can find a way to tape or cover the exposed piston you should be alright. I would just worry about the Plasti-Dip causing issues with the valving if it came off inside the shock. The other thing is the potential for causing the seal to leak. I am also assuming that you are planning on spraying them and not dipping them.

Yes, I'd spray. I was kinda thinking this would be needed (somehow covering the inner piston). Not sure if anyone has successfully done this.

I took mine off and plasti dipped them. I have a spare set so I really didn't care if it caused any issues. This is starting the second season with them dipped. No failure, no peeling, no issues.

I did mine and when I sprayed the spring I did it from an extreme angle spraying
down on the spring while holding the shock straight up and then flipped the shock
upside down and did the bottom half of the spring and I didn't get any over spray
on the piston that way.hope that made sense.

So you sprayed parallel to the piston? That's impressive that you didn't get the piston!

Did you literally dip, or spray them?

Sprayed,if you take your time and look it over before starting I think you
will see how I did it once you have the shock in your hand. Also do a lot
of light coats.
