Hey all new member here! Hoping you guys could help me out, I ride a 09 Dyna Fat Bob has the stock drag bars on it. I find tho after a longer ride these bars are just not for me at all, I've been thinking of swapping them out for some 12"in bars love the look and feel. problem is I have no idea where to begin to look for a good set of bars seen a lot of people on here with after market bars so was hoping people could post some pics and tell me what kind they went with and what risers and cables they used. Appreciate any and all help!
Boy, Lot of ground to cover for you. First I would do a search on how to find the right height and reach for you. It involves holding a broomstick in many awkward positions I'm sure!
Once you know that you can start to search styles that appeal to you. I use wild 1 pullback drag bars in an 8", the 10 would have also worked for me without swapping cables and such but I have a street bob which came stock with mini apes. At any rate I would just google tons of pics of various bars to find a style that you like. One piece like mine and t-bars are cool but have no adjustability. A drag or mx style with risers will have more.
Once you get height and such figured you can pull wires and measure cables to see if you will need to replace or extend. Obviously it's easier and cheaper if you don't but get what fits and work from there.
When you get to the point of install do a search here, I and many others coupled with great YouTube videos have documented best practices to save you time and effort in installing the bars yourself saving hundreds in labor.
Pitter patter get at it and start feeding specific questions as you need. Good luck and have fun!
My 09 FB has Todds customs 12" 1.5" black bars and love them. I went with 1" riser and are perfect height. You will need new clutch cable, throttle cables, and brake lines. No wiring extensions needed as dynas have a lot of excess to pull out of frame. Anything taller you'd need wire extensions.
Also only good way is to install bars and measure from stock cables to new locations for cable length. I used drag specialties black nylon cables for all of mine.
The best way I think, to measure cable length is to take a piece of cable TV coax And attach the one end down bottom to where the cable starts with a zip tie and just run the coax up and this way you can move it around to where you feel the cable will work the best for you and then cut it and measure the length
Thanks for all the replies guys! I know I wanna get 12" bars that much I'm sure, just got to find out where I'm gonna get them from before I get all the cables
The bars are going to be preference. There are so many different bars out there. I just ordered my 14" about a week ago and they are being custom made for my 08 Fat Bob. I can't wait to spend the weekend in the garage with a case of beer changing them out.
