Default Wheel Help

Hey guys, just bought a set of rims for my 02 fxd, they have just been professionally powdered coated, with new 3/4 bearings. Well my local harley dealership just called me and said that the bearings are tapered and not sealed bearings and won't work, they also said that if somehow they could work it will need spacers? Any thoughts on what my options are, or how to make this work? Thanks

I think union was saying that you need to purchase the correct 3/4" sealed bearings for your wheels, not really actually asking a question, even though it is written as a question.

Yep. I guess sometimes the tone or sense of humor doesn't come across the internet properly. I can't think of a bike I've worked on that has had tapered bearing for the wheels. I would look for the right sealed bearings.

3/4" tapered roller bearings (Timkens) are in wheels from FXD's and Sporty's 99 and older. 00 and up went to sealed 3/4" bearings and then changed in 05 or 06 to a different diameter.

I don't think you can put sealed bearings in the 99 and older wheel/hub that are setup for the Timkens. There may be an adapter kit out there, but best to get the wheels for 00+.

I was hoping that I could fit them. But it seems like I will have to sell them and look for 00 to 06. Really sucks, paid close to a grand canadian for them, and love the look.

The depth of the counterbore is probably your biggest problem. Not sure about their being a sealed bearing with the same OD as the tapered race was. Might carry the wheel to a bearing shop and have them look. My guess is you would need longer spacer and run them with tapered bearings.

Dyna Front then changed to 1" in 2004...to 25mm in 2008
Dyna Rear then changed to 1" in 2006...to 25mm in 2008

Yep. It's not just bearings and spacers.
It's Brake rotors and Pulley (different ID)
Also 99-earlier had even narrower "narrowglide" front hubs (need brake rotor spacer or caliper spacers

blah blah blah

You can make any of this "work", but someone has to know what they are doing.

Sounds like the wheels are evo / 99 tc with timken bearings. You can use these wheels but need to set up the wheel spacing on the bike.. Timkens take an external grease seal to keep things out and different spacers.. You might be able to find an independent shop that does custom work to machine the new external spacers.. Also note that later brake discs and pulley will need a spacer machined too as the lip on the wheel they locate off of is smaller on the wheel hub..
